Master of Science in Tropical Animal Production

1.0 Admission requirements
The general regulations and guidelines for higher degrees of Sokoine University of Agriculture apply except where indicated otherwise.
In addition to the general regulations, a candidate for admission to the Master’s Degree in Tropical Animal Production of Sokoine University of Agriculture shall either hold an honors degree of Sokoine University of Agriculture or a qualification from an approved institution of higher learning, deemed to be equivalent to an honors degree of Sokoine University of Agriculture.
Candidates who hold unclassified degrees (e.g. BVM) should have a credit or a distinction in the subject related to Master’s degree in Tropical Animal Production.
Candidates with Pass degrees will also be considered for admission if:-
The undergraduate performance in the proposed subject of study was a B grade average or above and
They have satisfied the Faculty that they have exhibited academic potential through extensive field work, subsequent research experience and/or additional training.


2.0 PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND PURPOSE

The M.Sc. (Trop. Anim. Prod.) programme is designed to equip students with sufficient skills and entrepreneurship to work as farmers, managers, researchers, trainers in the public and private sectors. One of the principles of SUA vision in the Corporate Strategic Plan states: “Students will be educated with a view to acquiring relevant knowledge, skills and entrepreneurship but most important to become lifelong learners, productive citizens and leaders in society”. Computer application, Remote sensing, use of GIS, Molecular genetics and Biotechnology are included in the programme which is also one of the principles of the Corporate Strategic Plan “… new frontiers of knowledge such as biotechnology, genetic engineering etc will be given due emphasis in the curriculum”.

1.1 Dissertation

A candidate is expected to conduct research and submit a dissertation not later than 12 months after successful completion of coursework.


2.0 Examination Regulations
Coursework and the dissertation will be examined by internal and external examiners as required by the Sokoine University of Agriculture Regulations and Guidelines for graduate students.
