VISION:To be a leading university in the provision of quality knowledge and skills in Agriculture and allied sciences

Diaspora linkages with SUA

Brain drain has had immense negative socio-economic impact on African economies as a result of educated and talented scientists drifting into other countries in search of better working environment. In deed the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) indicate that Africa suffers partly because of erosion of the manpower base through brain drain and this has risen sharply in recent years in response to ICT revolution. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on the other hand estimates that Sub-Saharan Africa has over 30 million people in Diaspora; with the Africa’s predominant migration being intra-regional.
Cognizance of the value of Tanzanian diaspora in respect to socio-economic status of Tanzania and enhancing SUA’s role in the agricultural development, the university, through the approval of COUNCIL at its meeting of 30th March 2008, has established an institutional facility that allows Tanzanian diaspora to establish academic and scientific association with SUA as part of capacity building in human resource base, sharing of information, collaborative initiatives and scientific competitiveness. This is in a form of appointment of such identified experts as:
(a) Visiting Professor or Lecturers
(b) Honorary Professor for non-university staff who have contributed immensely to university’s missions in terms of research and academic development

This facility also applies for African diaspora, Tanzanian experts based in Tanzania and foreign scientists that have exemplary academic linkages with SUA.

Appointment procedure:
Appointment is through identification by SUA or one indicating interest to be associated with the university and this is guided by Guidelines for Engagement of Diaspora
